Vaccine’s ‘Medicate With Bass Weight’ Mix

On August 22, Californian DJ and producer Christine "Vaccine" Clements sadly passed away and tributes from those who knew her have been circulating over the past few days. One of those celebrating her life was Boston-born Incyde who uploaded this archive mix from 2007. Although based all the way on the West Coast, this mix goes some way to showing just how in tune Clements was with the foundations of dubstep, including joints from Scuba’s Hotflush, where she released some of her music, as well as gems from Ninja Tune, Hyperdub, and Soul Jazz among others.

Star.One for Reprezent

House and garage champions Star. One were tapped up for the latest in Reprezent’s ongoing ‘100’ series. It’s an eventful half hour, taking us on a whistle-stop tour through the latest drops from both camps, Adam and Joe also took the opportunity to stir in some acapellas from Bugzy Malone, Scrufizzer, Byron Messia, J Hus and a couple of others. If you’re looking for a post-Carnival pick-me-up or a splash of colour to cut through the grey skies, here’s your stuff.

Miley Serious, Lu2k & Toma Kami for The Lot Radio

Toulouse-hailing 99CTS RCRDS boss Miley Serious was in New York this week where she connected with Brooklyn-based Jesus Piece drummer Luis Aponte, aka Lu2k, and Parisian DJ Toma Kumi who’s currently touring the US right now. A natural trio, they connected over their shared love of punishing drum patterns and white-knuckle club music. Incidentally, Miley and Luis’ last visit to The Lot wasn’t that long ago, and definitely worth digging up. Hopefully it won’t be too long before all three are back on deck together.

Arthi for Rinse FM

Another gem from the ongoing Rinse X sessions at Night Tales hit YouTube this week. This time it was from Arthi who curated the penultimate night in the series. An absolute stormer with Goldtooth, Almass Badat, Mya Mehmi, Papaoul, and Scotty Garçon also on the lineup, but Arthi herself stole the show for a few reasons. Her mix of funky, dancehall, garage, bassline, Amapiano and so on was bang on as always, but it was the barely contained chaos of the final 10 minutes, including and the “Follow The Leader moment” that cemented this one.

Rea for Keep Hush

With her dissertation behind her, Bristol DJ and producer Rea has had a packed summer. Between finishing off tunes on her to-do list and a hectic festival schedule, she also took time for a trip down to Brighton for her latest set. On a lineup with Audio.Dune, DSD, Dub Athlete, and DJ Priya, Rea turned in a set of footwork, Jersey Club, D&B, and a few other shades of percussive, 160-oriented dancefloor heat. A high-energy showing that doesn’t let up—no wonder the crowd flocked to her.
