TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, Jojo took us right into cuffing season with some slinky R&B, Afrobeats and Amapiano smokers and rump-shakers from to help you forget how terrible the world outside your window is; Pan African Music selector Crotch Goblin welcomed bate.1prod, aka DJ Doraemon and Lokowat on air for a channel-hopping session of funky, soca, Afro-house, and lots of big, bassy doofers; Danielle was on a WFH tip this week, putting up some cosy defences against the sub-zero temperatures with lots of dubby grooves and breaks courtesy of Forest Drive West, Paradox, Angel Wash and more; West Coast DJ and producer Westerley pulled from the heavier end of his dubstep wax, putting a heavy emphasis on the step part without compromising on dub for a full-bodied hour of chuggers; Hagan gave us a more in-depth look at his recent album, Textures, mixing some of those tracks into his usual slow-burning selections from the overlapping worlds of funky, gqom, Amapiano, and the rest; Skream and Interplanetary Criminal went B2B at Beams for a blood-thickening dose of garage and bassline bouncers; Conducta lived up to his name, taking us on the Kiwi Express through a stunning festive vista of 4x4 filth and big, dirty bassline stompers from DJ Crisps, Gemi, Oppidan and more; Amadeezy delivered an eclectic but thoroughly bass-oriented session of electro, Miami bass, rap, trap and more; Zaleel took to the airwaves for his final show of the year to give us an hour of grime, garage, funky and 4x4 sluggers, plus Wayne Wonder gets the hard house treatment; and finally, Etch and Benny Ill put their heads together to bring us a two-hour session of turbo-charged rave and hardcore jewels with a few treacle-sweet vocal cuts thrown in too.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
