TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, the multi-talented Aluna delved into Amapiano’s range and potential, mixing hidden gems with canonised classics from the likes of Major League DJz and Uncle Waffles; Nottingham’s JACKSN sounded the alarm for Halloween with a mostly vocal garage set that moves from the warming and soulful into darker, heavier 2-step; Felix Dubs, Manj, and Medley P took turns mixing 30 minutes of Amapiano-driven funk with moments of grime, garage and funky, before wrapping up with a 15-minute B2B2B rally; Niceup took the Pull Up show way out in another galaxy on a seamless wash of electrifying breakbeat, cinematic techiness, and some cosmic grime menace; Hancoq switched lanes from his usual trap sound to mix together two hours of rattling house and garage with the occasional splash of rap and techno; Oh Annie Oh returned to Reprezent with a typically varied, garage-driven set, including a couple of inspired Beyonce club reworks; ETCH soundtracked the post-club afterglow with a suitably well-rounded blending chunky breakbeats with little brain-zaps of grime, trip-hop, rap and more; Nervous Horizons top dogs TSVI and Wallwork brought in Henzo for a furious round of percussion-heavy club thunder Pangaea, DJ JM and a few of their own concoctions; Chimpo plunged us into the deep blue for an hour of D&B fused with subaqueous synths, glistening R&B melodies, and some Aquasky to complete the metaphor; and finally, Meraki celebrated three triumphant decades of RAM Records with a speedrun through the label’s history, including gems from Chase & Status, DJ Fresh and the rest of the RAM family.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
