TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, Dutch marvel Suze Ijó warmed us through with a rich, autumnal set taking us from twinkling electronica into soul, through broken beat and into piano house; Hagan primed us for his imminent debut album with a fittingly percussive and high-temperature trip from Ghana to London with UK funky, Afro house, highlife, and jazz; Chrissy raised a glass to the UK with a heartfelt session of garage, funky, bassline and a few other sounds from the low-end continuum; Freshta’s latest show took us into the deeper side of garage and UK club music for a hoods-up, heads-down session that still packed plenty of jumpy moments; Tibasko gave us the full spectrum of what they’re about, from techno to breaks to film soundtracks, and most of the tracks are their own; Hudson Mohawke marked the release of his new album Cry Sugar with a bittersweet blend of trance, hyperpop, rap, but sadly no “Cbat”; Teki Latex shared the set he recorded at the Sputnik tent at this year’s Field Manoeuvres where went all-out on high-intensity rave, from ‘80s pop to gabber via about a thousand other sounds; Daytimers’ resident D&B head Rani got the bassbins ablaze with just over half an hour of beefy D&B rattlers; kidkanevil took us back in time with a strictly ‘90s mix of classics and forgotten gems from the likes of Lemon D, Photek, Remarc, Krust and the like; and finally, REO stepped into the Kindred store to deafen the neighbours with a session of brash, noisy junglism.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
