TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, Selassie TBC stirred up two hours of soothing, warm-hearted grooves from the far-flung reaches of soul, jazz, R&B, broken beat, and far beyond; K Stylz kicked off his new timeslot on SWU FM with two hours of house music, Amapiano, and Afro-house that couldn’t be more perfect for the heatwave; Kenyan maestra Coco Em put the concept of ‘resilience’ at the heart of her latest session, which includes everything from local hero Budalagi to our very own Cooly G; Zed Bias primed listeners for his 51st Festival set next month with a deep dive into his back catalogue, punctuated with a few new and unreleased gems as a bonus; Lotic wrapped up Pride Month with an hour of queer-focused excellence that’s part club mix part rallying war cry and with countless twists, turns and surprise shifts to keep you on your toes; Jialing, aka Big J, hit up Maniia and Kooxla for two hours of club, breaks, techno, and knuckle-whitening energy; Freshta kept it relentlessly jumpy with a mix of breaks and club music, including a few gems from her fellow Daytimers that are absolutely worth keeping tabs on; Alexisitry mixed acid, electro, UK funky, breaks, and lots of percussive club heat for her sweat-soaked, anything-goes new mix; Coco Bryce kept it largely to the D&B end of his palette for his latest mix, save for an eye-widening flash of sugar-rush hardcore at the end; and finally, DJ Escape took us back to the late ‘90s for an all-killer set of D&B and jungle classics from Roni Size, Mask, Swift, and more.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
