TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, Sam Binga & Fracture lifted the curtain on their OMURA project with a look at the various strains of moody, hypnotizing and occasionally unsettling electronics that inspired it; Koast and the Durkle Disco family welcomed Reprezent, No Signal and Ubunifu Space polymath Shay Sade for a guest mix of steamy Amapiano excellence; Hyperdub teammates Ikonika and Scratcha went B2B to school us on the latest and greatest piano-n-perc stormers; JD. Reid kicked off his new Rinse tenure with some spacey club music, cruddy UK rap, and a couple of fresh jams from across the pond; Tokyo expat and NTS regular Changsie penned a love letter to the London club sounds that inspired her, from UK funky to electro and beyond; Scart Lead (fka Sovereign) gave us another fresh dose of bassbin-ready garage bubblers with a heavy emphasis on the low-end; Ware Collective and Slut Drop resident Jameela hit us with 45 minutes of the darker, weightier side of garage and bassline (including a handful of her own productions); DJ Manny gave us another masterclass that tapped into footwork’s limitless soulful potential while keeping the energy sky-high; jungle and hardcore encyclopaedia SBVRSV1 took us deep into his record bag for a well-informed hour that could only have come from someone who lives, breathes and sleeps jungle; and finally, NAINA signalled the fast-approaching next edition of Outlook with an hour of teeth-grinding, nosebleed rave—from the euphoric to the downright filthy.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
