TRENCH Radio: 10 Of The Best Mixes This Week

SoundCloud (while it still lives) can be an impenetrable, infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

First up, DJ Voices partnered with Oroko Radio co-founder Kikelomo for a trip through the BPMs, from chugging rollers to skittish footwork and everything in between; Lisbon selector DJ Narciso showed us just how experimental and surprising kuduro can be with just under an hour of woozy head-expanders; Physical Therapy gave us a rundown of the greatest ever 2-step tearjerkers, including Artful Dodger, All Saints, and a surprising take on the Corrs; Marcus Nasty wrapped up his International Women’s Month series with four new mixes from Cydnee, J Oh Zee, Bambina and Char Stape, centring on garage, Baile funk, and UK funky; London duo Kassian celebrated the launch of their Faux Poly label with a session blending techno with 2-step and breakbeat; FutureCurse showcased some fresh grime and dubstep gems from E3 Breaks, Alix Perez, Duppy, Boylan, Drone, and more; South London drill advocate Bempah showed us why his Scary Things outfit are such an essential force in the world of 808 slides and hi-hat triplets; LCY brought in Happa and Hypna for a bumpy, breaksy session that included a particularly outlandish Mumdance x Soulja Boy blend; RP Boo kept it all the way 160 with a heart-racing hour of his own joints mixed in with old and new gems from DJ Clent, EQ Why, and the late, great Rashad; and finally, Edinburgh-based Polish duo Ciarki split their latest show into an hour of their own dubby but energising rollers followed by 60 minutes of lightning bolt jungle and breaks from Anna Morgan.

This is TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the week.
