EXCLUSIVE: Mim Shaikh And Harry Pinero Give Blood And Raise Awareness For Lack Of Black And Asian Donors For Eid-Al-Adha In #Date2Donate

For the past few years, NHS Give Blood have been running a series of campaign videos to raise awareness over the declining numbers of black and Asian blood donors in the UK, and to encourage more people to sign up to the scheme. In the past, they’ve created videos with Maya Jama, Rak-Su, Miquita Oliver, Yasmin Evans, Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stevens, and Capital Xtra presenter Remel London.

Now they’re back with a new video, this time featuring BBC 1Xtra’s Mim Shaikh and #Merky Festival presenter Harry Pinero. In the clip below, we see the pair share some jokes and discuss music, the late Cadet, friendship, what it means to be a Muslim person in the media, and even the nuances of the Arabic alphabet.

Speaking with TRENCH via email, Mim Shaikh explained: “Being a British-Pakistani, and knowing that there is a lack of us registered as donors, I thought it would be good to use my platform for good and encourage more young people to go and give blood too.”

#Merky Festival host, Harry Pinero also commented on the project: “The experience was eye-opening and made me understand how our cultures are not educated enough about the benefits of giving blood.”
