EXCLUSIVE:
Demae (FKA Bubblerap Of Hawk House) Brings Classic Soul Into The Future With “Stuck In A Daze/Use It”

After changing the face of British hip-hop with London collective Hawk House — a trio whose influence on the fabric of British music will continue to be felt for generations to come — singer-songwriter Demae (fka Bubblerap) is now stepping out on her own. So far she’s three singles deep into her solo career and now, with the promise of her EP album on the horizon, she’s presenting a new video that combines the latter two singles, “Stuck In A Daze” and “Use It”.

“Stuck In A Daze” sees Demae unite with fellow Touching Bass family member, Ego Ella May, for a slinking, wondrous piece of soul. Fans of either artist won’t need to be told just how exciting it is to have them both on record together. “Use It”, meanwhile, is a slightly more energetic offering. Nodding to her former life, the instrumental is equal parts freeform jazz and broken beat hip-hop while Demae’s voice flutters and soars above with a grace seldom seen.

Through both tracks, there’s just a hint of psychedelia and a definite nod to the ‘70s — something that’s brought to life in the entrancing visuals. Filled with disco balls, bell bottoms and kaleidoscopic effects, the two-for-one video from director John Ogunmuyiwa plunges the viewer into the past with a reassuring message of hope for the future. We live in increasingly horrifying times, but hopefully, at least on some level, Demae’s offer of empowerment and self-belief will ease your anxiety.

Both tracks are taken from Demae’s upcoming Life Works Out… Usually EP, which you can pre-order now via Touching Bass on digital and vinyl. Due September 2020, the EP will also feature contributions from Fatima, Nala Sinephro and Joe Armon-Jones.
