EXCLUSIVE: Billy Green Is Dead—Watch The "Eulogy" Video From UK Rap Titan Jehst

Back in June, UK rapper Jehst dropped his latest album Billy Green Is Dead. As you can probably gather, the album and its latest single "Eulogy" feels like a line in the sand. Musically, the big boom-bap sound of some of his older tracks has been toned down a little, while the jazz and funk elements have been pushed right to the fore. "Eulogy" may sound like the end, but the huge, densely-packed production (matched by equally engrossing visuals from Ewen Farr) hopefully signals the beginning of a new chapter for Jehst.

The rapper explained to TRENCH via email: "I was working on a bunch of stuff with Paul White, who did a lot of production on the last couple of Danny Brown albums, and I had this one beat tape from him where this beat was just tagged on to the end of another beat. It was just a tiny short outro that ran for about 8 bars. I was like, 'Yo! I need this one!' And I basically had to convince Paul to extend it for me. Paul is so focused on pushing the boundaries of hip-hop production—and music production, full stop—that he just took this one for granted. Like, that's just some standard Madlib / Dilla type head-nod, boom-bap shit. But to my ears it was something special, and really calling out for rhymes.

"The video is by a guy called Ewen Farr, who did some amazing work for Quelle Chris and my boy, Sonnyjim, among others. I just let him interpret the track how he saw fit and he came up with all this crazy classical painting imagery. I was definitely feeling it so it just grew from there. This is definitely one of my personal favourites from my new album, and I'm really looking forward to performing it on tour."
