EXCLUSIVE:
Aberdeen’s Vagrant Real Estate Takes Us Back To The Glory Days With This Nostalgic Channel U Mix

For those who spent their youth glued to Channel U (before it rebranded as Channel AKA in 2009), waiting to hear the latest game-changers, the hugely influential TV station was an essential source of new grime, garage, R&B and rap — and that went double for those who lived outside the reach of London’s pirate radio stations.

The tracks and videos were hyper-energetic, boldly colourful and always relatable, regardless of where you lived. The station’s brand was so strong, in fact, that it became its own sound. Even today, tracks and videos are described as ‘Channel U-esque’.

Celebrating that, and taking us on a welcome tour down memory lane, is Aberdeen DJ and producer Vagrant Real Estate, who’s dug through the archives to pull together a 30-minute mix of some of the greatest works to have been championed on the station. Lethal Bizzle, Klashnekoff, N-Dubz, Akala, SLK, BMD, Nu Brand Flexxx and pretty much every single one of your favourites have somehow been crammed in.

With the growing chaos all around us, what could be better than a return to simpler, happier times?
