Spotify UK Announces 'Sound Up Bootcamp' For WOC Podcasters

August 22, 2018

Earlier this year, Spotify ran their first ever Sound Up Bootcamp, a project focused at giving women of colour a springboard into podcasting. Now they've announced they'll be building on that success with a UK version to take place in London.

Anyone keen to get involved is being encouraged to submit their idea for a podcast to Spotify's team. You don't need any experience in making podcasts whatsoever, just a passion for the medium and an idea for your own. Entries will be judged by Spotify's in-house podcast team. A final list of 10 applicants will be picked to attend the bootcamp.

Those lucky enough to make the cut will learn everything they'll need to make their own podcasts a success; from figuring out their demographic, story arcs and graphic design to licensing, and the technical and legal aspects of it. Of those 10, three of those will be selected by a panel of industry experts to have their podcast idea developed and recorded.

Natalie Tulloch, Director of Content Partnerships at Spotify, added: "The US Sound Up Bootcamp has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. The week was so much more than planned. It was a privilege being in the room with an amazing group of women. During the course of the week, it was more than learning about the business of podcasting, it was therapy, bonding and plenty of laughter. We could not have done it without the amazing women in the podcast community in NYC that supported the initiative."

The Sound Up Bootcamp will take place between Nov. 5 and 9 in London. To enter, visit bit.ly/soundupuk and outline your podcast idea before Aug. 31.
