Poppy Ajudha Explores Themes Of Immigration And Identity On Thoughtful New Single "White Water"

October 24, 2018

Next month is arguably the biggest month of the year for Poppy Ajudha as not only does she have her headline show at North London's Jazz Cafe on Nov. 14, but her PATIENCE EP also releases on the same day. It's a good job then that she's revealed a song from the project, "White Water", for fans to get acquainted with.

With her usual blend of jazz and neo-soul, the song explores some meaningful and relevant themes, looking at the immigrant experience and how people try to fit in with Western culture by being less open about their own background and heritage. It's a view that is rarely looked at but is immensely important in today's climate, making her foray into the subject matter that much more unique, opening up the possibility of how far she takes it on the full project.

Speaking about the track, Poppy explains: "They are taught that this is the only way they will be accepted and while doing so, the bar is set higher each time, disabling them from ever being able to keep their heads above water."
