A Petition Has Been Started To Stop Kensington And Chelsea Handing Notting Hill Carnival Over To External Organisations

March 01, 2018

It's still a while yet before Notting Hill Carnival comes to town for another year, but it's events behind the scenes that are attracting attention, and for all the wrong reasons. Usually the Carnival is put on by volunteer steel pan players, Caribbean music DJs, sound systems, dancers and so on, who raise their own funds to produce and present the most successful street event in Europe, and have done so for over 50 years.

This year however, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have now invited external organisations, with no experience, to run the historic event, however all is not lost. There's a petition to help safeguard Carnival and keep it in the hands of those who put in the work to make it the experience it is. At the time of writing, it has been signed by 4,485 people; click here to add your name to it, and make a difference.
