Pete & Bas Have Come To Flip The Grime Scene On Its Head With "Shut Ya Mouth"

January 03, 2018

Sorry, Devlin. You're no longer the grandad of grime.

If you thought you'd seen everything, cockney grime geezers Pete & Bas (aka Peter and Basil) are about to blow your little mind. The 60-something duo have just dropped their game-changing new single, "Shut Ya Mouth", and it's got the world baffled.

For one, their flow is surprisingly good (discount merch in the back of the van / damn!)—as is the trappy, grimey production. Secondly, unlike a lot of grime/rap parodies from white people, they don't seem to be sneering at, or patronising, the scene. Instead, most of the jokes are at their own expense as two older gentlemen in suits and pork pie hats still dining out on their youthful exploits.

The third and final surprise is where this all came from. There isn't much info about the duo online, but the original video credits Sindhuworld, a cornershop with an untouchable Instagram game that is now apparently producing music videos.

Honestly, the more you look into this, the more questions it raises.
