London Jazz Outfit Kokoroko Share Soothing "Abusey Junction" From New Brownswood Comp

January 04, 2018

Much has been made of jazz's current rude health lately. This isn't something that exists purely in the imaginations of journalists either; in fact, there's been a huge groundswell in exciting new talents keen to push jazz into new territories, rather than just retreading the old.

One such artist is Sheila M. Maurice-Grey's Afrobeats-influenced jazz outfit Kokoroko from South London, who have just released their new single "Abusey Junction". The new cut, which comes as part of Brownswood Recordings' new We Out Here compilation (due February 9), is an expansive, seven-minute instrumental that combines their West African influences with a distinctly London jazz sound.

We Out Here launches later this month at London's Total Refreshment Centre and will be accompanied by a documentary, talks, DJ sets, and live performances. Listen to "Abusey Junction" below.
