Laville Summons The Spirit Of Classic Soul On Stunning Cover Of JP Cooper's "Passport Home"

March 15, 2019

This morning, North London artist Laville released his debut EP, Thirty One, via Acid Jazz Records. Across the four tracks, Laville puts his classic R&B/soul vibe on full display, particularly on the closing a track, a cover of JP Cooper's "Passport Home".

Where Cooper's original was a big, anthemic piece of acoustic pop, Laville's reimagining gives it a much more soulful bent, draws on the masters of the '60s and '70s to create something timeless.

Speaking with TRENCH via email, Laville told us: "This EP is a tiny snippet into what kind of music I want to make, and think that's an honest form of soul music. One that gives flavour of the old and new school. It's like a rebirth for me. It signifies leaving old habits, behaviour and parties behind. Passport home is a pleasure to sing because it's so well written and arranged. I'm not afraid of a cover if I think I can do it justice."
