Joivan Wade Helps Tackle Knife Crime Starring In Short Film 'Amani'

January 17, 2019

Joivan Wade has become something of a force when it comes to young Black actors. Having featured in shows like Youngers, Eastenders and Doctor Who, before more recently appearing in The First Purge and the viral sensation that was Shiro's Story, the Londoner is now set to appear in the upcoming DC Comics TV series Doom Patrol.

With all he has achieved over the last few years, Jovian's latest role is arguably his most important to date. In a new short film titled Amani (which he produced with his Wall Of Comedy partner Percelle Ascot), he plays the role of Amani Simpson, a real life victim of knife crime who then went on to use his experience to help other young people make positive choices when facing similar situations. The film follows Amani through some key teenage experiences, including an assault in which he was stabbed seven times, and his struggles with religion, tackling some important themes and raising some interesting questions.
