JD. Reid Calls On Henry Wu And Venna To Combine D Double E With Jazz On "Just Know"

May 03, 2018

With D Double E's long-awaited Jackuum! album almost upon us, the legendary MC is enjoying support and fanfare in just about every sphere of UK music. Across the next few months or so you'll be seeing Dee's face across magazine covers, billboards and, in this instance, the new tune from JD. Reid, Henry Wu and Venna.

"Just Know" is the track in question and takes some iconic D Double bars and ad-libs and transposes them into a very different setting. We got a hint of the D Double/jazz combo on Swindle's "Lemon Trees" not so long ago, but "Just Know" takes that to its logical conclusion, putting D Double E into a sprawling, futuristic, funk-filled jazz environment that could just as easily come from L.A as London.

Matching those surreal sonics, the trio have recruited Beej and Jeremy Cole to put together the hypnotic, almost Dali-esque imagery to swell and pop in trance-inducing synchronicity. Disembodied hands clap and tree roots emerge and fall away in between even more abstract imagery marching through the video with tireless drive.

"Just Know" is taken from JD. Reid's Tree album, which is out now.
