HERITAGE: Soul II Soul Perform Their Classic "Back To Life" (1990)

February 08, 2018

Starting out in the 1980s as a soundsystem, Soul II Soul would eventually grow into the band best known for "Back To Life (However Do You Want Me)" and "Keep On Movin'". Over their career they've won two Grammy Awards, and have been nominated for five Brit Awards—twice for Best British Group.

Between the mid '80s and the late '90s, Soul II Soul went through a number of personnel changes (Melissa Bell, late mother of Alexandra Burke, was a member at one point), but the core duo of Caron Wheeler and Jazzie B remained the one constant. Here they are, below, performing their UK chart-topper "Back To Life", live on TV.

As soon as that rich, velvety harmony drifts through, you can't help but be plunged right back to the first time you heard it. It also goes to show just how powerful Wheeler's voice is that she sounds at least as good as she does on record.

Sadly, details around this are scarce, so if you know what show this is from or even what year, let us know.
