HERITAGE: Silver Bullet Gets Heated In Politically-Charged "20 Seconds To Comply" (1990)

Rodney P and London Posse are the first two names most people cite when talking about the early days of UK hip-hop. As we've shown you before, though, there were plenty more besides repping for the British Isles.

Silver Bullet, a rapper whose style took influence from the likes of Public Enemy and Kool Keith's Ultramagnetic MCs, had some pretty big hits back in the late '80s and early '90s. His first hit, whilst still with his crew Triple Element, was "Bring Forth The Guillotine", but it's the follow-up "20 Seconds To Comply" that we wanted to draw your attention to today.

Supposedly, the track takes its name from a run-in Silver Bullet and his crew had with police at Notting Hill Carnival. The pivotal sample, film buffs will know, comes from Robocop. Besides a couple of singles and the Bring Down The Walls No Limit Squad Returns album, "20 Seconds To Comply" would be one of his final big hits. The single hit number 11 in the UK singles chart in 1989, staying in the charts into the following year (when this video was released).

Below is the full video version of the track in all its glory.
