HERITAGE: Saxon Sound System Rework General Levy's "Wicked" At Notting Hill Carnival (1994)

May 03, 2018

Both Saxon Sound System and General Levy deservedly hold legendary status in the history of Caribbean music in the UK. The latter's M Beat-produced "Wicked" is a certified anthem that sits perfectly in jungle, dancehall, basement, grime and even hip-hop sets.

The former is a monumental sound system that, since its inception in Lewisham in 1976, has been responsible for some of Notting Hill Carnival's most memorable moments. Their rotating cast of toasters and emcees has at various times included Maxi Priest, Smiley Culture, Tippa Irie, Daddy Colonel and more. Here they are, at the height of jungle's reign, whipping the crowd into more and more intense frenzies with a show-stealing rework of Levy's trademark anthem, vocalled by their very own MCs.
