HERITAGE: Nearly 20 Years Ago, Wiley Was Spraying Heat Over D&B And Jungle (1998)

November 09, 2017

As we all know by now, before grime there was UK garage and before that, jungle. And if you didn't know, when Wiley first started, like a lot of MCs, he was lacing jungle and D&B. Below, you can see a very young Wiley spraying furiously over DJ Krust's 1997 D&B roller "Warhead", courtesy of Barrington b2b with Shogun Audio's Frenzic (preceded by Friction, funnily enough) at Lazy Sunday in Bedford in 1998. Yep, 20 years ago. And, if you look extra close, that's a very young Flowdan behind him.

Sadly, the video isn't the best quality in the world but it's a rare glimpse of Wiley before grime and even before garage. It's also cool to see the Shogun Audio guys doing their thing back in the day. Check out the whole thing here for a full list of all the DJs and MCs that feature.
