HERITAGE: Michelle Gayle Performs R&B Classic "Sweetness" Live On 'Top Of The Pops' (1994)

February 09, 2018

If you remember Michelle Gayle you'll probably remember one or two of her songs. You might even remember her from Eastenders or even Grange Hill before that. Either that, or you've seen her in some of her more recent roles now that she's returned to acting.

In 1994, though, she was a pretty huge pop star, thanks in some part to her 1994 hit "Sweetness". Here she is performing the track on Top Of The Pops that sameyear. The track was the second single to come from her self-titled debut album and ultimately ended up at #4 in the UK singles chart.

Fun fact: Michelle Gayle played Hattie Taverner in Eastenders for three years and was vocal in her criticism of the show's overly white casting, calling out executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins for calling representation "box-ticking".
