HERITAGE: MC Wariko Puts Nottingham On The Map In This Passionate Freestyle (2005)

November 07, 2018

Nottingham's Wariko is one of the city's unsung heroes when it comes to the dual worlds of rap and grime. Adept in both styles, Wariko is a name that sadly seems to be known only amongst the most die-hard fans. Among those die-hard fans, though, he remains critically revered.

As well as being supremely talented, Wariko also deserves credit for helping to draw London's attention beyond the confines of the M25. Wariko made regular trips to the Big Smoke, collaborating with London artists and bridging the gap between London and the rest of the UK.

Here he is back in 2005 with a potent and impassioned freestyle that goes in on police brutality and the realities of being a young black man in Britain. In it, Wariko tells his tale with immersive imagery and cleverly layered rhymes.
