HERITAGE: DJ Target Hypes Up Pay As U Go's Maxwell D And Major Ace (RIP) At License To Rave (2001)

Before BBK, before Roll Deep, before any of that there was Pay As U Go. The seminal collective—that consisted of core members Geeneus, Major Ace, Wiley, Maxwell D, Target, GodsGift, Slimzee, Breeze and Plague—bridged the gap between the commercial UKG sound and the tougher instrumentals that would eventually be called grime.

They also launched a bunch of careers along the way. Pretty much every member of Pay As U Go went on to do huge things in UK music. The crew disbanded around 2004, but from the ashes of the Cartel came Roll Deep, East Connection, Wolfpack and the grime scene.

Here we have three of the crews pivotal members—Target, Maxwell and Major Ace—tearing at down at Imperial Gardens' License To Rave in 2001. Elsewhere in the vid, you can catch appearances from  Masterstepz, So Solid Crew, DJ Iron, CKP, and Sparks and Kie.
