Grime Hero Stormin Has Sadly Passed Away And The Moving Tributes Are Flooding In

February 19, 2018

One of grime's most important pioneers and revered MCs, Stormin, has sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The N.A.S.T.Y Crew legend (who was a key member of seminal grime collective East Connection and D&B crew SaSaSaS) had been a grime MC since before there was even grime and, as many have pointed out, his role in the genre's development will go down in history as invaluable.

Though Stormin, aka Teddy Bruckshot, had been battling cancer since his diagnosis two years ago, the outlook had seemed positive, due largely to his announcement in November that he was cancer free, as well as his impressive bravery and refusal to give up the fight. He even kept performing and releasing music.

However, it was announced last month that the cancer had returned and the prognosis looked terminal. Even then, however, Stormin remained stoic and displayed stunning strength throughout. Touchingly, the grime scene rallied around him from the start, offering support, raising awareness and more for their old friend.

Then, this morning, his old friend and collaborator DJ Phantasy announced the MC's passing: "So gutted to be typing this. My brother Stormin sadly passed away this morning. He battled til the very end. The strongest person I've ever known. I'll always make sure no one ever forgets you my bruva."

As you can see below, the collective worlds of UKG, drum & bass, and of course grime have been coming together all morning to send love to his family and share memories. So let's all do our bit and rinse his tunes on Spotify and spam his best radio sets all over Twitter.

Rest in peace, Stormin.
