Filmmaker Shane Duncan Follows Up 'This Is Brixton' With Analysis Of Peckham's Regeneration

June 25, 2018

Back in February we told you about a new film, This Is Brixton, from rising documentary maker Shane Duncan. That was part one in a trilogy of films designed to tackle the regeneration and gentrification of areas within London.

As with part one, This Is Peckham takes a balanced look at the issue, giving examples of how regeneration can work well for an area and its residents, as well as downsides like rising house prices and cultural eradication.

To add personal context, Duncan speaks to several familiar faces from Peckham, including broadcaster Yinka Bokinni, social entrepreneur Kenny Imafidon, publisher and editor Ibrahim Kamara, and the team behind Peckham Levels (which was recently converted from a car park).

The issue of gentrification is a prickly one, which can be easy to dismiss out of hand, but Duncan's films give us a more balanced perspective, honing in on the personal stories without editorialising. Make up your own mind with the film below.
