Edinburgh's Proc Fiskal Announces New Album With Slippery, Grime-Inspired "Dish Washing"

March 28, 2018

It wasn't much more than a year ago that Edinburgh producer Proc Fiskal signed to Hyperdub Records to release his debut EP, The Highland Mob, and since then it seems he's been hard at work on his debut full-length album, Insula.

At 160BPM, his productions are typically a little faster than grime's usual template, but the influence of the sound is still audible, especially the genre's formative, more experimental years. Lead track "Dish Washing", for example, features off-kilter rhythms, inventive use of space and a balance of almost IDM percussion with a soothing melody that comes together as something surprisingly club-ready.

Of the new album, he explained: "I wanted to be aware of where the music is coming from, referencing things I'm presently experiencing like making grime, my Radar Radio show, phone addiction, alcohol, my surroundings, girls, depression, positivity, being unemployed, being employed and hating it, my friends, etc. Trying to be true to myself instead of relying on other people's nostalgia, and focusing on now."

Take a listen for yourself below and look out for Insula when it drops June 8 via Hyperdub.
