Camden Rapper Awate Explores "Brutalism" In Preparation For Debut Album

January 18, 2018

For every Trippie Red, there's an AWATE, a lyrical, thought provoking rapper with a message. With 2016's Shine Ancient EP serving as his introduction to the rap game, his latest video for new song "Brutalism" gives a deeper insight into who he is and the values he holds.

Taken from his forthcoming debut album Happiness (due February 16), the video is a collaboration between award-winning filmmaker Penny Woolcock and designers Block9, filmed at the Utopia installation at The Roundhouse. It shows the Camden rapper as he performs on stage bringing to life stories of growing up and the anxiety and fear that comes with being an inner-city black boy, all told over an old school hip-hop beat produced by frequent collaborator Turkish.
