TRENCH Presents The Return Of Cult Club Night ChockABlock

D Double E performing at ChockABlock (January, 2010).

Anyone knee deep in London's underground club scene in the mid-to-late 2000s will have, at least once, found themselves at ChockABlock—the night founded and run by TRENCH founder/EIC Joseph 'JP' Patterson and TRENCH Executive Editor, Laura 'Hyperfrank' Brosnan. The first ever ChockABlock was in Northampton in 2007 with an unbelievable debut bill that included Skepta, Ruff Sqwad and one or two other OGs. Over the four years that ChockABlock ran at EGG nightclub, until its final show (a collaborative charity event with Oxjam in 2011), JP and Hyperfrank booked an endless list of names that would go on to greatness, such as Boy Better Know, Giggs, Tinchy Stryder, Ghetts, Tempa T, P Money and many more icons besides.

The inspiration for the first ever ChockABlock came after JP was finally won over by grime's anarchist energy that, for him, was almost spiritual. The exact details of that fateful night are a little hazy after all the years but Wiley, D Double, Flirta D, Desperado, DJ Cameo and others left an indelible impression on him. Two years later and ChockABlock debuted at the Caribbean Social Club in Northampton. It wasn't just grime, though; scene kids, rudeboys and art students could be found raving side-by-side to bassline 4x4, dubstep, house and anything else that what was waiting in the wings to take over London's clubs.

It's been seven long years since they last filled a club to bursting, but it's finally returning to Miranda Ace Hotel on Thursday 6th September and, given their track record, it'll be worth getting your ticket asap. Grab yours now from Resident Advisor or Dice FM.
