EXCLUSIVE: Mercy’s Cartel Adds Her Own Twist To R&B With Afrobeats-Tinged “6 Tears”

Inspired by Chance The Rapper’s independent come-up, Essex-born Mercy’s Cartel has definitely done things her own way, dropping out of university and creating her own Afrobeats-leaning, R&B productions with elements of trap, neo-soul and hip-hop included too. Having released her debut EP, Vibes Cartel—co-created with producer and long-time collaborator Outhouse—earlier this year, she’s now back with a new single, “6 Tears”, premiering exclusively here on TRENCH. The track does more of what has become her trademark with heartfelt vocals encapsulated within the groove of an Afrobeats-tinged R&B production which is sure to get a head bop from even the most headstrong of people, and can easily be imagined playing on the radio. For fans of the artist, this is exactly what you want to hear from Mercy’s Cartel, while for anyone unfamiliar with her work this is as good an introduction as any.
